Supporting you
Our members have many years experience of living with Stroke and are one of the club’s greatest resources. They are very supportive of each other and can help sort out most issues. Below we list some internet sites and local service providers that may be useful, if you know of others in the area feel free to suggest them and we will add them to the list.
- Carers Trust – a charity that supports carers, providing information and assistance in your home.
- The Stroke Association – the national charity supporting Stroke Survivors and a great source of information on Stroke and its effects.
- NHS Choices for all your health questions.
- CILK the Centre for Independent Living in Kent, a charity offering help with Direct Payments and other means to live independently.
Local resources and services.
- The NHS provide physiotherapy services from Deal Hospital, contact them on 01304 865400 for more information.
- There is a Stroke Communication Support Group that several of our members have attended, call us to learn more.
- You may also like to contact Dover Stroke Club, they hold regular meetings at Buckland Hospital, they can be contacted on 0303 3033 100 or call us for more information
- The Blue Badge Scheme – as a Stroke Survivor you may well qualify for a Blue Badge which can be used for any car that transports you.
If you require assistance you may well qualify for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Attendance Allowance – these benefits are not means tested. Similarly, if your partner cares for you they may qualify for Carers Allowance.
