Welcome
Welcome to the website of Deal & District Strokes. We are the charity supporting stroke survivors, their carers and families in Deal, Walmer and the surrounding area. We hope that you are staying safe and well.
Beneath the photos and on our other pages you can learn more about our activities, where and when we meet and how to get in touch with us. For a quick look at what’s happening in the next few weeks please look at our latest newsletter: News – Deal and District Strokes (dealdistrictstrokes.org)
We realise that suffering a stroke is a great shock to the survivor, their family and friends. Recovery and learning to live with the effects can take a long time and frequently involves a great deal of adjustment. Each case is unique and there is no simple route back to how life was.
Isolation is frequently a problem for stroke survivors who find it difficult to get out and make friends. We provide a safe, friendly environment where they can meet other survivors, their carers and our volunteers and start to join in social activities.
We hold monthly meetings with speakers, games and activities. There is also time for a cup of tea/coffee and an opportunity to chat. The meetings provide stroke survivors and their carers with an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy the company of fellow members. The meetings are 2pm – 4pm on the first Friday of every month, at the North Deal Centre on Golf Road. We look forward to seeing you soon.
We also meet every week for our Deal pier walk – a bit of a walk along the pier, a chat and a nice hot cuppa. It’s great if you want to walk, and the distance you walk is up to you. Some people walk just a little bit, others walk further, some just come for the cuppa and the chat! It would be great to see you if you are able to come along. Meet at Deal pier entrance, 10:45 for 11am on Thursdays.
Throughout the year we have a range of activities, including outings to local attractions and restaurants: https://www.dealdistrictstrokes.org/activities/
This website was funded by a Community grant from KCC, we thank them and all the local people who voted for this project at the Astor Theatre, Deal in 2013. Thanks also to Entrypoint who designed this site and host it.
